This is the one that started it all—our first commercial roast. A humble yet confident beginning. The beans come from Buana Mandiri, a young and passionate cooperative founded in 2014 in Bener Meriah, Sumatra. With over 1,300 smallholder farmers working between 1,200–1,400 meters above sea level, their focus on sustainability shows in every cup. Protective gear, organic fertilizers, shade trees, and shared milling—these are the quiet rituals that make their coffee thrive.
Grown on the slopes of Mount Leuser, one of the world’s most biodiverse ecosystems, this coffee captures the earthy soul of Sumatra. Processed in the traditional giling basah (wet-hulled) style, it carries the unmistakable creamy body, gentle acidity, and notes of dried fruit, spice, and dark earth that define the island’s coffee heritage.
Hand-sorted three times for perfection and produced by farmers using organic practices, this lot represents a new generation of Sumatran growers shaping the future—one harvest at a time.
At Cappucho, we roast it to honor its origin and our own beginnings. Expect a full-bodied cup with hints of Medjool date, muscovado sugar, and vanilla bean. Lighter roasts reveal its quiet fruit complexity; darker ones bring forward its grounding sweetness and timeless depth.

This Sumatra lot is roasted in a precision-controlled, ventless roasting system designed to bring out the depth and richness of the beans without compromising their natural character. Using advanced air circulation and automated profiling, each batch is roasted evenly and consistently — allowing the coffee’s signature earthy sweetness, gentle acidity, and full body to fully develop.
The system’s closed-loop design minimizes smoke and emissions while maintaining a clean roasting environment, preserving the integrity of the bean’s origin notes. Digital controls ensure every roast curve is repeatable, meaning the balance of spice, dried fruit, and creamy texture you taste today will be just as true in future batches. The result is a sustainable, small-batch roast that honors both the producer’s work and the coffee’s natural terroir.

Nestled at the foot of Costa Rica’s active Poás Volcano, Hacienda Sonora is a 100-hectare coffee estate with a legacy dating back to the 1970s. Under the care of Alberto Guardia, the farm has become a leader in sustainable and socially conscious coffee production — known for producing distinctive microlots with incredible character.
This release features the Obata variety, a cross between Villa Sarchi and Timor. The beans are honey-processed, a method that conserves water while allowing natural fruit sugars to infuse each seed with layered sweetness and complexity.
Hacienda Sonora operates on 100% renewable energy generated on the farm and prioritizes low-impact, water-saving methods. Beyond the fields, the farm provides free housing and essential utilities for workers and their families, creating a thriving and supportive community.
Through the Farmer Impact Fund, Hacienda Sonora receives direct community investment from roasters and coffee lovers like you. These funds allow Alberto and his team to improve safety and efficiency at their mill — projects that would not be possible without this program.
Each cup you enjoy helps strengthen this connection — bridging local coffee lovers at Cappucho with growers across the world.
